The FDA now recommends that parents stop using homeopathic and natural teething remedies for their babies as these products may cause seizures, breathing difficulties, sleepiness, muscle weakness, constipation, difficulty urinating, and agitation.
The gels and tablets being investigated are manufactured by CVS, Hylands, and possibly others, including Orajel. CVS has all withdrawn all homeopathic baby teething products, its own, Hylands’, and Baby Orajel Naturals. Prior to this, these products had not been evaluated or approved by the FDA for safety, and the FDA is now testing and analyzing the gels and tablets. Dr. Janet Woodcock, the director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation recommends that parents not use these homeopathic products and instead get advice from their pediatricians.
